About Me:
I began rug hooking in 2007 at the repeated request by a friend to join her group of “hookers”. This friend, Pat Mensing, was a fellow quilter and she would talk to me about hooking all the time at our quilt guild meetings.
One day when I was out of town Pat called and left a message that bewildered my husband. She said a group of hookers were meeting at her house on Tuesday morning about 10 a.m. and would be hooking until 2 or 3 p.m. I should bring a lunch and she would be providing the dessert. She had everything I would need and would lend it to me to use, just to see if I liked it. When I returned home my husband was quite candid about what he thought this message was about, and asked me if I thought I could handle that many hours on my first day of “hooking”!!
About Because of EWE!:
Several months later, there I was, a Hooker!
One year Sauder Village had a sheep rug challenge and all I could think about was honoring Pat in some way for her generous spirit. I designed a rug with a large sheep, representing Pat Mensing. Then made a few smaller sheep tucked into the curls of wool on the larger sheep. These smaller sheep represented all of us who Pat had gotten started on our rug hooking journeys. I called this rug “Because of EWE” and stated it was in honor of Pat Mensing for all she had done for our small group of rug hookers.
I was not a fan of primitive colors and was having a very hard time finding the wool I wanted to buy. Fast forward again, and there I was beginning a business selling hand dyed wools. With the help of Cindi Gay http://cindigayrughooking.com, I left a weekend hook-in with a website! When thinking of a name, I just kept coming back to the “Because of EWE” rug. I not only decided to use the name for my business, but also use the rug as my trademark logo. That is how “Because of EWE!, LLC was born.
