Instructions

Proceed with hooking both sides of the pouch pattern in any way you prefer. (I decided to slightly round the corners of my pattern because I wasn’t sure if I was going to whip the edge or turn it to the back.) Keep on or just inside of the outside (Black line). There is already a pencil line drawn all the way around both patterns (down the middle of the two also) for cutting.

I turned the corners back and cut them off, see inserted photo. As soon as you cut the patterns out and the corners off, zigzag the edges because they fray so bad. Then turn the 1 inch to the back of the mat and steam very well.

At this point, make sure the rectangles are squared off by measuring the diagonals. They should measure the same if they are squared up.

I then basted the edge to the back of each mat. (you might be able to skip this step.)
Carefully line up the hooked mats with the bottom of the handle edge on the IKEA pouch and make sure it is centered.

Then carefully sew by hand through the mat and the pouch keeping the top edge snug to the pouch handle edge. I stitched some on the edge and some through the hooking….just inside the first row. I got a slightly different look, so try both if you want. (see next photo) When you get to the sides and the bottom, you need to carefully put your hand inside the large pocket on the side to make sure you are not catching the side of the pocket when you are sewing through the side of the pouch. Finish stitching and enjoy!

This has to be one of my favorite projects. I just love the roominess of the pouch and being able to personalize it!
